Which EVC mode need for cluster with Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 v4 @ 2.40GHz and Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2695 v4

Hi All,

We have one HA cluster with four identical nodes with the following configuration.

Model=Dell Poweredge R920

CPU= Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 v4 @ 2.40GHzz

 

Now, we need to add one host with CPU of Intel Xeon E5-2630 @ 2.30 GHz. I aware Enhanced vMotion Compatibility creates the baseline and suppress the new features compare than old one. But,when i enable EVC i can see there following EVC modes. Which mode i need to select

 

Intel® "Merom" Generation (Xeon® Core™2)

 

Intel® "Penryn" Generation (Xeon® 45nm Core™2)

Intel® "Nehalem" Generation (Xeon® Core™ i7)

Intel® "Westmere" Generation (Xeon® 32nm Core™ i7)

i will be hosting 3 SDDC cluster on my DC site , this will hosted on vxrail . I have roughly 30 vms per cluster. and about 50TB of Storage per cluster. I will be suing vsan for storage.

I have additional 2 cluster on the DR site.

I want one single orchestration layer to manage the entire set up .

can somebody guide me , what are the products I will need, for eg. vcenter enterprise edtion, NSX etc. keeping in mind that vxrail will be coming with its own management layer.

please do also guide me the type of license that I will have to go with in this kind of a set up .

esxi + v3700 multipath error

Hello,

 

For learning purposes I use V3700 (P/N 00MJ095) and Dell 1950  (Emulex LPe12002 card is installed into the Dell Server) to configure multipath on esxi, I use Volume from V3700 as Hdd  and I installed esxi 6 on it and it worked thenI configured multipath on esxi with PSP (Round Robin) as images below (image 1,2,3)  but when i uploaded iso file to Datastore, it shows xxxx minute(s)..... and very slow (image 4) but if i used singe path and it uploaded very fast.

I also checked article at VMware Knowledge Base  and Adjusting Round Robin IOPS limit from default 1000 to 1  but the problem still persists.

 

Anyone can help me how to configure multipath correctly ?

HA with two nodes

Hello,

 

I am experimenting with VMware vSphere and High Availability for days now. And I am a bit confused from the documentation, maybe my question is very simple and one of you can give me a short answere.

 

When I create a 2-node HA Cluster, is this possible to be handled with two physical mashines? When reading the documentation, I thought so... but in the end I need a third physical server as a wittness, right?

Misc.HeartbeatPanicTimeout

I have a small cluster and for some reason when I apply the profile created on the other hosts Im getting the profile error:

 

The options Misc.HeartbeatPanicTimeout have been changed from their expected default values

 

Does anyone know where this setting lives on the host? Or why the profile cannot be applied?

Hi Guys,

 

I am new to Airwatch and would like to learn more about it.

 

Can somebody please help me to understand how the SEG server in an on-premise setup interfere the mail flow from Mobile device to exchange server.

 

How the Authentication between device and exchange works?

once authenticated, how the mail flow works?

what happens to the EAS when you enrolled a device to Airwatch? the device completely ignoring the EAS and only use SEG?

We are about to replace our current infrastructure of 3 hosts with a Nutanix running VMware solution. My question is, has any one re purposed an old cluster and downsized it? What I mean, we are going to reuse two of the three hosts to run a small 3 server domain, and I want to make sure that HA will be available and operational...sounds simple, but I would like to make sure before we roll it out...thank you

when VM traffic uplinks are down in HA cluster

Hi,

What will happen if the two NICs /up-links for that the VMs are connecting are down while the management NICs are up. In that case the VMs will still be up and running but they will not have any connection out of the host. Will the VMs will be restarted on other host ?

Hi,

 

I am new to VMWare and hope someone can advise me regarding the VMWare configuration.

Please refer to the attached word document named Inquiry_VMware.docx

 

Page 1, I have 2 hosts and 3 virtual machines. Host 1 has no virtual machine. Host 2 has 3 virtual machines.

Page 2, It show that vCenter HA is not configured, does it mean if any of my virtual machine failed, it will not failover from the master host to the slave host ?

Page 3, It show that no of vSphere HA heartbeat datastores for host is 1 less than required 2, how to rectify this and does it effect anything ? So far my virtual machines are running fine.

Page 4, May i know the failure of "Guest not heartbeating", does it mean vCenter unable to detect the host ? Does warning in page 3 will affect this ?

Page 5, Currently my application and database are located in virtual machine named "EGSC-MFS". There is one time that the VM swap to the slave host due to master host breakdown, there is some downtime for my application before the slave host started up the VM and took over the master role. I would like to use Fault Tolerance in order to have zero downtime, may i know how should i configure this Fault Tolerance properly ?

HA with Anti-Affinity Rules Scenario

If I have 4 hosts in a cluster with HA protecting. For this scenario assume vSphere 6.5U2.

I also have 4 VMs, which are all listed in an anti-affinity rule.

 

So whilst all is running OK, each VM is running on a separate host.

 

Now supposing one of the hosts goes bang!

Does the VM that was running on that host get restarted on one of the three remaining hosts, contravening the anti-affinity rule, or is the VM left in a powered-off state?

If HA does actually restart the lost VM, how is the host chosen?

Dedicated Failover Hosts, Slot sizes & Performance degradation VMs tolerate...

Currently working with a cluster with admission control enabled & set to Dedicated Failover Hosts. My understanding is this effectively takes these host resources out of the cluster until another host fails.... Using this, are slot still still calculated the same i.e using the largest CPU & Memory reservation? I assume the remaining host resources are split up using these slot sizes? Finally how does "Performance degradation VMs tolerate" affect this if you have it set to 100%? would it essentially ignore the VM resource reservations?

How to avoid Split Brain in a stretched Cluster

Hello,

 

i am searching the internet for an answer... but i am stuck.

What we have and whats happened.

We have a cluster with 4 hosts.

2 on side A and 2 on side B

2 dark fibre between A and B

The hosts are connected to a network with 3 physical adapters and connected to the storage via 4 FC HBA to a DataCore Cluster

 

What was happened ? The 2 dark fibre were cut by ???

So we see 2 hosts disconnected - 50% VMs disconnected (looking vsphere server on side A)

I could connect to a backdoor to Side B and open the website of the esxi hosts and see, that the 50 % (the disconnected ones from side A) VMs are runinng fine.

 

So i shut down the VMs on side B, removed the disconnected hosts on side A and register the disconnected VMs, power Up.

 

So - thats not a good solution.

 

How can we manage this, that one side will shutdown the remaining running VMs and the other side will power up these ?

FT is not happening

We have 7 servers , in that one is vcenter and remaining we have installed esxi 6.7 we configured HA and FT, in which if we power off host FT is happening but when we shut down particular vm in any of the host , then secondary vm is not coming up.

VmWare Fault tolerance set up

Hi Team,

 

I have a quick question regarding Fault tolerance set up in vmware .

 

Scenario:

     I have an environment with 22 servers and need to set up FT for it.

 

Requirement:

     This application requires same IPs to be retained on both DCs \ clusters in vmware.

 

Plan to Implement:

     1. Set up same same infrastructure in both clusters (this includes IPs, cpu, ram,storage etc.exactly same in both cluster). Lets call the clusters as DC-1 & DC-2. Then, shutdown the DC-2 to avoid           IP conflict.

     2. Set up active-passive fail-over

     3. DC-1 will always be up and syncing the data between DC-2 (which will be in shutdown mode) all the time

     4. If there is a host failure in DC-1, FT will bring up the passive cluster and vms will serve the data from there

 

Question:

     Will the above scenario work?

     Any suggestions to simplify or improve this design?

     Any documentation that will guide me here?
